Some positive news from Instagram

It’s been a rough Holiday Season for Instagram. The Facebook-owned photo-sharing startup continued their PhotoWar with Twitter and stopped supporting Twitter Cards, resulting in all images ever shared to Twitter from Instagram changing from an embedded image to just a link. Then, Instagram attempted to update their Terms of Use and ended up alienating potentially millions of users who don’t want their pictures sold or used.

Now, however, on the technical front, Instagram has released an update to their mobile app that adds a brand new filter, Mayfair, and adds support for Facebook iOS 6 integration. You can see how the new filter looks to the right.

Another important development is that Instagram has resolved the issue where users were only able to import images from their Camera Roll. We reported this issue after the last update and provided some workarounds, but this fix is much appreciated. Now Instagram users can once again import a folder from any of their albums or photo stream and apply filters as they wish.

Finally, Instagram’s app is now available in 25 languages, and the update included some additional performance and bug fixes.

While this update doesn’t even begin to repair the massive PR damage that was self-inflicted last week, these would normally be some nice updates.

What do you think of the new filter? Are you still planning on dumping Instagram?
