The folks over at the University of Florida’s Online MSM have put together a stunning infograph to help illustrate the growing need for educated social media marketers, and how businesses are able to turn a profit using social media, and therefore pay their new social media marketer!
For instance, the infograph points out that, according to their research, 77% of B2C companies and 43% of B2B companies have acquired customers from Facebook. <tweet this stat> And it mentions that 34% of marketers have generated leads using Twitter.
It should be noted that on any infograph like this, where usage and adoption levels are rising by the minute, the actual numbers were probably innacurate as soon as it was published, but they should give you a great approximation. More and more people are using social media, and more and more businesses are finding ways to utilize social media to connect with customers and generate actual revenue.
One of the most telling stats included was this: 85% of all businesses with a dedicated social media platform reported an increase in their market exposure. <tweet this stat>
What U of F does a great job of pointing out is that it’s not enough to just be there. Businesses need to have an understanding of these social networks, and that’s where an educated and dedicated social media marketer fits in. What is the best way to format a tweet? When is the best time to post it? What is your target demographic, and how does that match up with the major networks? The infograph teases some of those answers for you, in order to suggest that there’s a lot more to learn than you might imagine.
Finally, the graphic demonstrates how poorly some companies are making use of the resources and information social media can offer. For instance, because so many companies are failing to pay attention to social media (known as social listening), they’re actually experiencing a 15% increase in churn rate. Their customers are talking, and because they’re not listening, their customers are leaving. Are you listening to your customers? Do you need help with social media right now? Check out the infograph:
Out of all these stats and figures, what stood out to you? Did you know that 80% of Pinterest users were women, or that over half of customers tweets to companies are being ignored? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
