Facebook updates mobile chat, photo uploads

Facebook has released version 5.1 of their iPhone app. This release focuses on improving the mobile chat experience for users. According to the update:

Now it's easier to chat with your friends and share multiple photos.

  • Swipe left anywhere in the app to quickly see who's available and send a message.
  • Add friends you message most to the top of your Favorites.
  • Share multiple photos fast.
  • Give real gifts to your friends using Facebook Gifts.
  • When sending messages, see who's active so you and your friends know how soon to expect a reply

While the version may be 5.1, it would be more accurate to refer to it as 1.1 since Facebook completely scrapped and re-wrote the app earlier this year. The previous version was based on HTML5 and performance was so poor, Facebook had little choice but to release a completely different version using the iOS platform instead. Now, performance is better and Facebook is able to concentrate on more advanced improvements like this one.
