Tumblr Adds Mobile Discovery

You are here: Home / Social Media Articles / Tumblr Adds Mobile Discovery

July 9, 2013 //  by Mike Allton

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Tumblr, now owned by Yahoo!, has updated their mobile app to include a brand new discovery “experience.” The update allows Tumblr users and readers to search both tags and blogs, as well as explore trending tags and blogs. And, whenever you’re searching a tag, Tumblr will recommend specific blogs for you to follow.

This brings a high degree of search and discoverability to the growing social network. If you’re posting on interesting topics and using the right phrases, your posts can dramatically increase in visibility, gaining you more traffic and followers.

Much of this capability was already available through the desktop version, so this update mimics that functionality for mobile, but also reinforces Tumblr’s commitment to the mobile experience.

To access, simply open your Tumblr app and tap the Magnifying Glass icon in the bottom menu. That will reveal the search screen which includes a search bar, as well as Trending Tags and Trending Blogs.

With all of the movement going on with Yahoo!, I am encouraging businesses to begin to get a foothold on Tumblr in preparation for what is clearly and evolving social network. If you’d like help with Tumblr and your business, please contact me.
