Share Images and Files on LinkedIn Company Updates

You are here: Home / Social Media Articles / Share Images and Files on LinkedIn Company Updates

January 16, 2013 //  by Mike Allton

Reading Time: 2 minutes

LinkedIn continues to develop and improve the Company Page exerience, as well as integrate SlideShare into their platform. Businesses with a LinkedIn Company Page can now share images or files as a status update, not just text and links. The file sharing functionality in particular is interesting since a presentation or PDF that is uploaded will be automatically converted and displayed.

Earlier I uploaded a new eBook I created called Creating Great Content. It’s a free eBook and being able to share that with my LinkedIn followers directly is an excellent marketing tool.

To try it yourself, simply log into your LinkedIn account and navigate to your Company Page. You’ll see the brown status update field, and a new paperclip attachment icon to the right (you may also see a bubble from LinkedIn announcing the new feature). All you have you do is click the paperclip and select a file on your computer to upload. Once it has uploaded and been converted (if it’s not an image), you’ll have an opportunity to add text to your update, as well as a desciption of what you’ve uploaded. The end result will look something like this:

LinkedIn Company Page document uploaded to status.

You can see the effect in action on our LinkedIn Company Page: http://www.linkedin.com/company/the-social-media-hat (as well as download the free eBook for yourself).

LinkedIn acquired the presentation-sharing social network SlideShare. Since then, there have been continued efforts to make it easier for members of both communities to be active on the other. On SlideShare, you can connect your LinkedIn account to automatically fill in your profile. And when you upload a new presentation, you can update your LinkedIn account immediately and automatically.

This is a great update for companies who are serious about using social media to market their business. Everything about the web is becoming more visual and more social. It’s important that each business strive to create compelling content and share that content, and so when a platform like LinkedIn makes that process easier and more effective, that’s a huge benefit.

There was no formal annoucement from LinkedIn on this change, and no indication on any limits in terms of file types or size.

Do you have a LinkedIn Company Page for your business? Are you posting updates? Let us know what you think about this feature in the comments, or if you have any questions.
