Twitter Takes More Steps to Control the Twitter Experience, Cuts Off Instagram

Starting with LinkedIn, Twitter has been publicly making moves to gain more control over Twitter user’s experience. Several weeks ago, Twitter severed ties with LinkedIn and stopped allowing Twitter user’s Tweets to be automatically displayed within the LinkedIn site on user’s profile pages. Twitter released version 4.3.1 of their mobile app. Changes included:

  • Numerous accessibility improvements
  • Fixed crasher affecting some users when launching app
  • Fixed issue with ambient notifications becoming stuck when sending Tweets or Direct Messages
  • Fixed issue with layout of Connect tab

Twitter has released version 4.3 of Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android. According to the update, the release includes:

 – Expanded Tweets: when you view Tweet details containing links to partner websites, you can now see content previews, view images, play videos and more [note that this feature is rolling out gradually]

 – Enhanced experience around selected events with the best Tweets and photos from those involved

 – Push notifications for Tweets: choose to receive notifications from people you follow any time they tweet or retweet

Starting in 2009, LinkedIn users had the option of connecting their Twitter account to their LinkedIn profile. This provided two feature benefits. First, any time you posted a status update or started a conversation on LinkedIn, you could choose to also have that post shared on Twitter as a new Tweet. Second, every time you posted a new Tweet via Twitter, that comment was posted as a new status update on LinkedIn. Many individuals and businesses took advantage of this option to automate their activity on one platform or another.
