Feedly makes massive upgrades in wake of Google Reader closure

When Google announced that Google Reader would be shutting down July 1st, one of the more popular alternatives discussed was Feedly. Feedly is an independent RSS reader that also syncs with your Google Reader account. Fortunately for Feedly users (and Google Reader users as well), Feedly had been aware for some time that Google Reader was going to be shut down, and had been working on a solution codenamed "Normandy" (described in their blog post).

Has Google Killed RSS?

Has Google Killed RSS?

Industry observers have been saying for years that RSS is dead or dying. And yet, strangely, we still use RSS to disseminate and aggregate content today. One of the biggest challenges for businesses who want to use content marketing to communicate is finding ideas and sources for new content topics. Since most of your blog topics should not be talking about your specific products or services, what do you talk about? One technique is referred to as Newsjacking. We will discuss Newsjacking in greater detail in another post, but the basic idea is that you will take a look at a trending story and then write about it. Newsify: The Blogger's Secret Weapon

One of the easiest and most effective writing techniques you can bring to your blog is to blog about news and topical events. Sometimes referred to as Newsjacking, your blog should regularly include posts that talk about something that's happening right now, and how it applies to your readers. You don't have to be the first to "break the news" as long as you bring something to the story that is unique. The major challenge though is how, as a blogger, you make sure you know what's going on and have a chance to write your blog post as close in time to the news event as possible.

This is where Newsify becomes your secret weapon.

What is RSS, and how does RSS help my business?

RSS is a term you may have seen, perhaps even in one of our other blog entries. You might have even seen or subscribed to another website's RSS feed, but what is RSS? Do you really need an RSS feed for your own site? Does anyone even use them any more? The answer, of course, is yes, you should be offering an RSS feed for your site. We will review what RSS is, how it's used, and why it's a benefit (perhaps even a necessity) for your business and Internet marketing.
